Dr. Dudgeon joined the UAB faculty in October 2012. Prior to UAB, Brian was an Associate Professor at the University of Washington, teaching in the entry-level MOT, Postprofessional MS, and PhD in Rehabilitation Science Programs. Courses taught included: Theory and Practice Skills for OT in Physical Disability, Assistive Technology, and Industrial Rehabilitation. He taught other courses, including Introduction to Research and Evidence-based Practice and Decision Making. In the MS and PhD programs, he taught seminars in Rehabilitation Research Methods and served as an advisor and chair of graduate degree programs, thesis, and dissertation committees for students in a variety of rehabilitation disciplines.

Prior to beginning his academic work life, Brian was an OT Clinician and Manager of OT services at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and also had worked in other practice areas that included home-health care and hand therapy. Brian started his OT career working at the Seattle Veterans Administration Hospital.

Brian has had a variety of professional service activities with the Washington Occupational Therapy Association, American Occupational Therapy Association and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. He is past president of the Pacific Northwest Non-Vocal Communication Board, and is a current Board member of Mobility Builders, a non-profit agency guiding and funding wheelchair fabrication and uses in developing countries.
