Jim Burns, MA, COMS, CLVT
Low Vision Instructor
Jim Burns is a certified orientation and mobility specialist and a certified low vision therapist. He is currently employed as a blind rehabilitation outpatient specialist (BROS) in the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Jim works collaboratively with occupational therapists within the VA system to provide itinerant low vision and blind rehabilitation services for veterans living throughout Michigan, northwest Ohio, and parts of northern Indiana.
Jim has written best practices guidelines for therapists providing manual skills therapy for the Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, he assembled and led an interdisciplinary group of professionals tasked with addressing succession planning in blind rehabilitation for the VA from 2004 – 2006.
Originally hired as a consultant in 2005, Jim joined the occupational therapy faculty as a certified course instructor in 2012. He teaches the functional mobility module in OT 690.
