Low Vision Instructor
Deann Bayerl is the manager and owner of an occupational therapy private practice in rural south central Pennsylvania providing in home low vision rehabilitation services. After careers in computer science, therapeutic massage and education, Deann completed a master’s degree in occupational therapy at Philadelphia University in 2007 and the UAB graduate certificate in low vision rehabilitation in 2011. She joined the occupational therapy faculty as a certified course instructor in 2013.
Deann achieved specialty certification in low vision rehabilitation (SCLV) from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in 2013 and recently served on the AOTA phase 2 panel revise criteria for the SCLV. She lectures frequently on Medicare regulation and documentation in low vision rehabilitation practice.
Deann teaches the elective OT 693 on designing and implementing low vision rehabilitation programs in health care. She also manages and leads the graduate certificate alumni journal club, an online group that meets monthly to review and discuss new and important journal publications in low vision rehabilitation.
