Postprofessional Master's of Science

school_of_health_professions_bldgWelcome to the Postprofessional Master’s Program website. We are one of four programs in the Department of Occupational Therapy at UAB. This curriculum enables occupational therapists with a bachelor’s degree who wish to continue their education the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree. If you are exploring this part of the UAB website, we welcome you as someone who wants to build on your bachelor degree skills.

In order to capitalize on the expertise of our faculty, the postprofessional master’s program offers two areas of specialization – low vision and pediatrics. At the same time, we honor OT practitioners who must continue to work, so both programs are offered specifically for part-time students in an online format. Technology allows master’s students to present their keystone projects through the internet without coming to campus. If you are in the low vision certificate program, you will make one trip to campus as part of that program, but no further trips are required for the master’s degree. Students in the pediatric program do not come to campus at all.

The coursework for both specialty degrees is designed to expand your existing skills. The final project requirement allows each student to focus on an area of interest, and can be either research, education, or clinically focused. It is our aim to help you complete a project for either publication or presentation.

Please explore our website to see the faculty and staff, and I welcome any questions you may have about either specialization.
