UAB’s Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics program is formatted after Dr. Doug Woods’ program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  This is a pediatric tic program and consists of 8 weekly sessions over 10 weeks.  The focus of these sessions is on identification of the frequency and severity of tics and then teaching alternate strategies (competing responses) to the child.  These new strategies help the child manage his or her tic disorder with discretion and confidence. The evaluation takes one and one-half hours and the weekly sessions are approximately 30-45 minutes in length.

This program is highly dependent on the commitment of your child adhering to the practice sessions outside of clinic time.  As parents we ask that you support your child in their homework and implementing their new competing responses, as well as completing weekly logs which will be reviewed by the treating therapist.

The total cost for the program is $500 which is payable at the time of the evaluation.  If you should decide to discontinue the program after the evaluation, you will only receive half of the full amount.  After the intervention begins, no refund is allowed.  You may pay with a check made out to the UAB Dept. of OT.  We do not bill insurance companies but will provide the necessary codes if you choose to file with your insurance company.

To be scheduled for an evaluation you will need to complete the two forms on this page.  Once you submit those we will contact you to set up the evaluation.
