The Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) fosters a multidisciplinary approach to research examining the biological, behavioral and environmental bases for nutrition/obesity-related disorders, the consequences of these disorders and methods for treatment and prevention. NORC is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and UAB’s intramural, university-wide interdisciplinary research center program.

Integrated and multidisciplinary research teams are comprised of NORC’s 100 members with expertise in the following disciplines: genetics, molecular biology, psychology/sociology, physiology, endocrinology and diabetes, economics, health policy, physics, pathology, epidemiology, statistics, exercise physiology/muscle metabolism, surgery, pediatric and adult medicine, and others.
