John BardisJohn A. Bardis, founder, chairman and CEO of MedAssets, Inc. in Atlanta, will be the keynote speaker at the Eighth Annual L. R. “Rush” Jordan Lecture on Feb. 16, 2102 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, co-hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Health Services Administration and UAB Health System. The theme for this year's event is, "Global Economics: The Reality is Finally Here for Healthcare."

Bardis has more than 25 years experience in the health care industry. Beginning with American Hospital Supply and Baxter International, he held various senior management positions, including vice president of the Baxter Operating Room Division and General Manager of the Eastern Zone. Bardis left Baxter in 1987 to join Kinetic Concept, a NASDAQ traded company. When he left as president in 1992, Kinetic Concept was the nation's largest specialty bed and medical equipment rental company. From 1992 to 1997, Bardis was president and CEO of TheraTx, Inc., a leading provider of rehabilitation services and operator of skilled nursing facilities. In 1995, the company was named the second fastest growing public company in America by INC. Magazine, growing from $15 million to over $500 million in five years.

Bardis was named Entrepreneur of the year by INC Magazine in 1995. He graduated with a B.S. in Business from the University of Arizona. He serves on the board of USA wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling, is founder of Hire Heroes USA and is chairman of the Atlanta Fire Youth Hockey Club.

The lecture series was established to sustain Jordan’s legacy of integrating health care practitioners into the classroom. Jordan was a long-time health care executive and professor of health administration at UAB. His vision and leadership fundamentally changed the health care delivery system. He led the transformation process for numerous health care organizations including Duke University Medical Center, Birmingham Baptist Hospitals, Ochsner Clinics and Foundation, Shands at the University of Florida and Miami Valley Hospital. For his tremendous contributions to the field of health administration, Jordan was inducted into Modern Healthcare’s Health Care Hall of Fame in 2000.
