Lisa Baker, Ph.D.

Associate Professor
Dr. Baker earned her Ph.D. in Social Work and B.A. degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia and the M.S.W. from Florida International University. Dr. Baker has a clinical background in perinatal and pediatric health care social work and crisis intervention. She is Disaster Mental Health responder with the American Red Cross and is a member of the AL-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team. Dr. Baker has published in the areas of disaster preparedness, evidence-based practice, and perinatal health care.

Jeongah Kim, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dr. Kim earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from the Ohio State University. Her dissertation, “A Structural Equation Modeling Analysis of the Effect of Religion on Adolescent Delinquency within an Elaborated Theoretical Model” has received two awards (the Award for Outstanding Research on Youth, Crime and Justice and the Merriss Cornell Distinguished Researcher Award). Her research agenda focuses on advancing the field's understanding of the role of risks and protective factors in initiating, shaping, and contributing to problematic outcomes such as substance abuse and HIV/AIDS and highlighting the importance of implementing research findings in social work programs and policies. She is experienced in advanced statistical methods and has published in the areas of HIV and international social welfare.

Cathy McElderry, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dr. Cathy McElderry earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Alabama. She received a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Master of Social Work from Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. McElderry has a strong background in healthcare administration, having served in risk management and quality improvement. She is certified in risk management modules I-IV from the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management. Her teaching and research interests include policy, women issues, special populations, and social justice.

Chris Walker, M.S.W.
Assistant Professor, Director of Field Education
Chris D. Walker has been a Licensed Certified Social Worker since 1984 and is the B.S.W. Field Director.  She received both a BSSW 1976 in Social Welfare and MSW 1978 from the University of Alabama.  Her interests include child welfare, grant writing, staff training, and disaster relief.
