What makes the UAB Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program unique?

Completely Distance Accessible

If you are a professional nurse with a full-time job, it can be very difficult to return to school. Our Distance Accessible Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program allows you to remain in your regional area for clinical experiences and take courses online during the most convenient part of your day.

Culturally Competent Care

With the demographic changes and increasing diversity in the United States, cultural competence has become an imperative skill for health care providers, enabling them to connect with their patients in spite of cultural and linguistic differences.  Our Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program prepares students to embrace the challenge of serving diverse populations.  Students learn that becoming culturally competent is on-going process, and we provide them with a foundation of knowledge about cultural health beliefs and practices, biological variations in physiology and disease across races, performing a cultural assessment, and working effectively with interpreters.

Collaboration with Neonatal Experts

Neonatology is a challenging and constantly evolving field in which new information on best practices emerges daily.  In order to provide our students with the greatest depth and breadth of knowledge currently available, we have partnered with neonatal experts and online NNP programs from across the United States to develop course modules that teach the fundamentals as well as recent advances.
