The Sparkman Center for Global Health, in collaboration with the UAB Minority Health International Research Training Program, will host a lunch seminar on November 15, 2017 from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. in RPHB 507. The guest speaker for the event will be Dr. Larissa Otero. Dr. Otero will present: "Tuberculosis in Peru and operational research to enhance case detection." 

Dr. Larissa Otero is a professor in the School of Medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima Peru and she is a mentor for the Peruvian site of the UAB Minority Health International Research Training (MHIRT) Program. Dr. Otero trained as an MD in Peru and holds a MPH from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium and a PhD in Epidemiology from University of Gent, Belgium. She has conducted epidemiological and operational research on tuberculosis and multidrug resistant tuberculosis in Peru, especially in the area of case detection and its impact on tuberculosis and multidrug resistant tuberculosis control.
