One-Day ConferenceUAB Student Affairs’ professional development committee recently hosted its first One-Day Conference, which was themed "Creating a community, Building connections". More than 100 Blazers attended the free event that was open to all Student Affairs professionals and students. UAB staff gave presentations on their work and best practices in the profession. There were roundtable discussions and presentations on how to write a successful conference proposal, recruiting future Blazers, supporting mental health outside of the counseling center, the importance of empowering women in Student Affairs, tips on how to use smart devices and much more.

Peter Zollo, co-founder of Collaborata, gave the keynote talk on how to outreach to Millennials and Generation Z. Special thanks to the One-Day Conference Committee: Sean Ries, Campus Recreation; Jessica Brown, Student Involvement, and Leadership; AT Helix, Housing & Residence Life; Jennifer Liptrot, Student Affairs; Dino Martinez, Career & Professional Development; and Courtney Johnson, Student Multicultural Diversity Programs.

The next conference is scheduled for May 11, 2018.
