Step 1: Apply to UAB! You can only join the Honors College after being admitted to the university.
Step 2: All students who meet the minimum eligibility requirements (28 ACT/1260 SAT and 3.5 GPA) will be invited to join the UAB Honors College Scholars. Look for your invitation in the mail!
Step 3: Once you’ve confirmed your interest in the UAB Honors College using a special web link in your invitation letter, you have the option of applying to one (or more!) of our four signature programs – Experiential Learning Scholars, Global and Community Leadership, Science and Technology, and University Honors. You are not required to apply to a signature program. If you do, keep in mind that admission to these programs is competitive. All programs require an application to be completed by December 15, 2013.
What’s the application like? All signature program applications require an essay and résumé. Each program asks a unique essay question, so if you apply to more than one program, you’ll need to submit multiple 500-word essays. In addition, Science and Technology Honors and University Honors require two letters of recommendation.
Do I need to interview? Both Science and Technology and University Honors require interviews for admission. These interviews will take place during January.
Step 4: All Honors College Scholars will be invited to an optional Honors College Preview on Saturday, January 25, 2013. At this event, students will meet honors faculty, get to know honors students, and participate in honors activities.
Step 5: All Honors Students must confirm their plans to enroll in the Honors College no later than May 1, 2014.
