Since the mid-1980s, the UAB Department of Theatre has supported troupes of student actors bringing quality performances to venues all over the state. Together these troupes have logged countless miles on the road and entertained thousands of people each year -- at every stop, representing the goals of UAB and the Department of Theatre.
The shows we have offered for touring over the years have varied widely. Here are the shows we have available for booking now:
The Shakespeare Ensemble -- Since the earliest days of the Theatre UAB Tour Groups, we've taken scenes from the dramas and comedies of the immortal Bard to high schools, hospitals, social clubs -- anywhere there's a hunger for the passion and poetry of Shakespeare.- Bookends -- The Bookends show is perhaps the one that changes the most radically every season. Each year we present a stage adaptation of a work of literature -- ranging from the Fables of Aesop to Tom Sawyer to folk tales from around the world.
The Kids on the Block -- Theatre UAB is one of hundreds of organizations around the world licensed to perform the Kids on the Block puppet shows. These programs feature large-scale puppets in stories about sensitive topics such as dealing with a school bully or respecting other people's differences.- Cabaret -- Whenever we have student performers with genuine musical talent, we have to show them off! This time we offer a quartet with an engaging program of song and dance, featuring songs from the last half-century of American popular music.
