What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of UAB? For many people, it is the fire-breathing Blaze seen on basketball or football jerseys or the unmistakable contours of the UAB monogram.

Each of these identifying marks, along with other logos, phrases, and symbols that represent the University of Alabama at Birmingham, are protected by state and federal laws. When ordering items with UAB marks, you must purchase from a licensed vendor. By using licensed vendors, you help protect the university’s reputation for academic, research, and athletic excellence. Funds from licensing fees are used to support UAB’s athletic programs and institutional pride initiatives.

University Relations is the primary contact point for general trademark registration inquiries and requests. Do you have a mark associated with UAB that may need to be registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office? Are you wondering how to order promotional items? We are here to help.

University Relations also manages the filing and maintenance of UAB’s trademark registrations. These activities are handled cooperatively with the Office of Counsel.
