Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) mastered both art and science during the rise of the Renaissance. Most famous for creating the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, Leonardo used drawings as preparatory sketches for his paintings, to record the world around him, and to design new inventions. UAB art historian Katherine McIver, Ph.D., discusses da Vinci in this slideshow of selections from the 2008 Birmingham Museum of Art exhibit Leonardo da Vinci: Drawings from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin.
