The University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) has a tradition of excellence in research and clinical care. As of June 1, 2008 the School had 2,074 active grants and contracts, which represented over $256 million in peer-reviewed research. In the past few years, the UASOM has added more than half a million square feet of space for clinical facilities, researchlaboratories, classrooms, surgical suites, and administrative space.
