The
Center Activity
The
Center supports an inpatient service which is dedicated exclusively to stroke
victims and critically ill neurological patients. The service is staffed by a team of
neurologists and nurse specialists in collaboration with consulting emergency
medicine physicians, neuro-endovascular specialists,
neurocritical intensivists, radiologists, cardiologists,
neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, sleep medicine and neuro-rehabilitation
specialists including nurses and technologists on these diverse services (the
UAB Stroke Team). Outpatient services
involve risk stratification and follow-up via the Stroke Outpatient Clinic, a

Awards
The Stroke Center’s efficient and effective delivery of comprehensive care was honored with the 2002 Best Practice Award by the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation for identifying, measuring, optimizing, and monitoring stroke quality indicators at University Hospitals in order to streamline patient selection for appropriate therapies, expedite care of acute stroke victims, and implement appropriate secondary stroke prevention strategies.
