The UAB Office of Service Learning and Undergraduate Research announces its 2017-2018 Undergraduate Research Travel Grants Program. These grants are intended to directly support undergraduate student travel to professional conferences or competitions giving UAB students the opportunity to present their research to a national audience.

Applicants may request up to $300 for a state, regional, national, or international conference or competition. This grant will only be given in conjunction with a match from the student’s selected department, principal investigator, or group. Preference will be given to students that have already presented their work at one of the three annual UAB Undergraduate Research Expos.

Eligibility

University of Alabama at Birmingham full time undergraduate students of all majors are eligible to receive the travel grants.

Funding may be spent on the following:

  • Travel to and from the conference
  • Registration fees for the conference
  • Poster printing
  • Food and lodging at the conference

Spending must conform to guidelines for the use of state funds.

Recipients must also complete a one page report documenting how funds were spent and, if applicable, provide a photo. Recipients are highly encouraged to share news about their presentations via social media when appropriate.

Requests for Funding

Funding requests for this year may be submitted beginning January 30th; requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis and awarded based on funding availability. All requests should be made via the Office of Service Learning and Undergraduate Research website at (site).
