Dr. Passman received his MD at the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT in 1991. He completed his Internship and General Surgery Residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, OR, from July 1991 to June 1997, and Vascular Surgery Fellowship at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC from July 1997 to June 1999. From July 1999 to April 2006, Dr. Passman was as Assistant Professor of Surgery with the Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center before joining the University of Alabama at Birmingham faculty.
Currently, Dr. Passman is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Section of
Vascular Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Surgery,
Division of General Surgery. In addition to this appointment, he is an Attending
Surgeon at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital at the Birmingham
Veterans Administration Medical Center. He is Director of the UAB Vein Program.
Dr. Passman maintains medical licensure in the state of Alabama. He is board
certified since 1992 by the National Board of Medical Examiners, since 1998
by the American Board of Surgery and since 2000 by the American Board of Surgery
for added qualifications in Vascular Surgery. He is also a Fellow in the American
College of Surgeons.
Dr. Passman is currently a member and active in the following professional societies:
Alabama Vascular Society, American College of Phlebology, American College of
Surgeons, American Venous Forum, Association for Academic Surgery, Association
of VA Surgeons, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, Society for Clinical Vascular
Surgery, Society for Vascular Surgery, Southeastern Surgical Congress, Southern
Association of Vascular Surgery, and Wound Healing. Since 2003 to the present,
he continues to serve on numerous councils and committees. Dr. Passman serves
as an editorial reviewer for the following journals: Journal of Vascular Surgery;
American Journal of Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery; and Vascular Surgery;
Since 1994, Dr. Passman has been an invited lecturer and presenter at local,
regional, national and international meetings and conferences, and has published
numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters.
