Petitions for exception must be received 10 days before the first payment deadline of each semester to be considered. (Petition for exceptions are not accepted for summer terms.) Students who have unique or extremely unusual circumstances that may prevent them from complying with UAB’s payment policy may petition for an exception. If the exception is granted, it will only prevent a student from being dropped from their courses for non-payment. Late fees will still be charged to the student's account.
The petition must include the following:
- A statement outlining why an exception should be made
- Any supporting documentation
- A plan for paying the remaining balance in full no later than 30 days after the add/drop deadline
