"Explaining Racial Disparities in Systemic Inflammation"
Dr. Irena Stepanikova, Associate Professor, UAB Department of Sociology
Why are African Americans more likely than whites to suffer from chronic
disease? Low-level, chronic inflammation in the body provides some
clues. Dr. Stepanikova will explore factors that contribute to chronic
inflammation, from modifiable health behaviors to larger-scale social
forces that lead to African American disadvantage in health, including
inequality and discrimination.
Forum participants do not need any special background in mathematics, science, or the humanities to participate. Meetings of the Haddin Forum currently take place in Heritage Hall
