This community event is an advance-screening of
the documentary “I Learn America” by Jean-Michael
Dissard and Gitte Peng. This film follows five immigrant
teens, respectively hailing from Myanmar, Guatemala,
Poland, the Dominican Republic, and Pakistan, over a
high school year at an international public high school
in New York City. The poignant experiences of the
students through the course of the year bring to life the challenge of coming of age in a new country.
Director Jean-Michael Dissard will be joining us for
the screening and discussion about it means “To learn
