Who would better know the potential for success of a UAB graduate than a successful UAB alumnus? Alumni know better than anyone that the UAB campus is a great place with quality students. UAB now has over 21,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are looking for career opportunities in the form of both internships and full time/part time positions. Helping a student from UAB find a job is a positive way to facilitate the future.

The UAB Career Center can help meet human resource needs for all types of businesses and industries. By serving more companies in all areas of recruitment, there is more opportunity for students to be successful. In return, these graduates can come back and help hire future graduates.

Many services are offered by the UAB Career Center to companies, including but not limited to:

  • HireABlazer, an all-encompassing site for managing recruitment activities
  • Ability to post jobs for full time, part time, and internship opportunities
  • On-campus recruiting in private, reserved rooms in the Career Center
  • Career events throughout the year, for both broad and specialized audiences
  • Opportunities to speak to student groups and organizations
  • And much, much more!

Alumni can give back to the university in so many different ways. Any alum who would like to participate in the recruitment process at UAB can contact Dian Teague Johnson at 205-934-4470 or at dian@uab.edu.

LinkedIn

We frequently hear from UAB alumni who want to connect directly with students and contribute to the future of their own industry by supporting students who are preparing to enter the workforce. Alumni have the opportunity to engage with other alumni and students by joining our group on LinkedIn.

As alumni, there are several levels of engagement that you can participate in:

Hire a Blazer

Connect with UAB students for your hiring needs through HireABlazer, powered by Purple Briefcase. HireABlazer is the university-wide portal for employers to post part-time jobs for students who are in school, internships, and of course, fulltime professional positions for new graduates. UAB alumni also have access to HireABlazer for your own job search needs.

Click on the link above, create an account, and navigate to the My Schools page and choose UAB. It's that simple!  UAB Career and Professional Development will approve your profile within 24 business hours.

Recruit for Professional Internship Openings

UAB students are frequently seeking professional internship opportunities that offer industry relevant learning objectives for both job skills and core competencies. If your organization has the ability to invest into the life of a college intern, you are often rewarded with a quality employee. Interns also serve as branding ambassadors for your company and product on UAB’s campus after the internship is over.

Attend Student/Alumni Networking Events Specific to Industry, School, or Major

Various schools throughout UAB host student and alumni networking events as opportunities for students to meet people in their industry and for alumni to meet up-and-coming talent. These events typically occur on-campus after work hours and revolve around food and engaging conversation.

Become a Job Shadow Volunteer

If you would like to volunteer to help UAB students gain valuable insight into your industry, consider participating in UAB Career & Professional Development’s job shadowing program. Job shadowing usually lasts a full or half workday and allows a UAB student to ask questions and observe a typical day in your industry.

Interested alumni can simply call or email UAB Career & Professional Development to be placed on the job shadowing list, after which they will periodically be connected with UAB students interested in their industry. Job shadowing requests are on an as-needed basis, but UAB Career & Professional Development does not reach out to any one volunteer more than once a month.

Participate in an Alumni Employer Panel

UAB Career and Professional Development hosts several panels across campus each semester. The panels consist of industry professionals who come to campus and speak to students on a selected topic.
