Family Resources Center of Northwest Alabama (Daybreak) #137
The mission of the Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama, Inc., known locally as Daybreak, is to provide quality, comprehensive services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and to empower the people we serve to live their lives free of violence.

Daybreak was incorporated by a group of concerned Walker County leaders in 1985 and began serving clients in 1986. The first services offered were an emergency shelter and crisis line, both located in a small, rented farmhouse near the city of Jasper. In 1990, the agency was able to purchase a house for the shelter and offices, and since then, it has expanded in both physical and service capacity. Daybreak now offers court advocacy, financial assistance, safety planning, community outreach, information and referral, and comprehensive case management in addition to the original services of the shelter and crisis line. As the result of several additions and renovations, the shelter can house 10 adults or older children or up to 14 individuals if the number includes infants and/or toddlers in a clean, comfortable, home-like setting. Security features at the shelter include exterior video cameras with DVR, exterior motion detectors, exterior lighting, property fencing, an alarm system, a lock down area for residents and staff, and bulletproof glass in the windows nearest the street. Shelter residents are provided with food, toiletries, bedding, clothing, and other daily needs. All of our services are provided under the philosophy of empowerment-based advocacy and on a strictly confidential basis.
