To help ensure students have access to high quality information systems training and instruction and are prepared to pursue the MS MIS online degree program, the UAB Collat School of Business has designed the Information Systems (IS) Bridge Certificate.

UAB's MS MIS online degree program requires students who do not already have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or a graduate degree associated with IS or IT with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to complete the IS Certificate. This will help ensure their success of taking in the information taught throughout the MS MIS degree curriculum.

In some cases, prospective students may be able to waive the bridge program requirement, even if they don’t have a related degree in IS or IT. If the applicant can show that he or she has work experience in IS, IT, computer programming, enterprise systems, databases or system design and analysis, they may be able to go straight into the MS MIS program.

Additionally, applying students who have completed any certifications in these areas may be able to waive some of the bridge program courses.

Who can benefit from the program?

  • Individuals who are looking to transition into the IT industry
  • Professionals looking to gain information systems knowledge to enhance their already established career.
  • Prospective students who want to prepare for success/entry in UAB's MS MIS online degree program.

IS Certificate curriculum

The certificate consists of six courses and covers some of the basics of networking, computer programming, databases and systems analysis.
See UAB Catalog for Information Systems Certificate Requirements.

  • The certificate will require the successful completion of 18 credit hours (6 courses), with a grade of 2.0 or better for each course.
