U.S. News & World Report recently acknowledged the University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business’ online master’s degrees as top national programs.
The programs were rated 17th in its 2015 Best Online Programs rankings, which were released this past week. UAB is one of 118 schools to be included in the rankings this year.
The best online business graduate degree programs are selected based on factors such as student engagement, admissions selectivity, level of accreditation, reputation for excellence among peer institutions, and academic- and career-support services offered to students.
“We’re proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for our high-quality online programs,” said Collat School of Business Dean Eric Jack. “Our high ranking is a testament to our exceptional faculty and staff, who work closely with our online students to ensure they graduate well-prepared to tackle today’s complex business challenges.”
Collat offers online degree programs for its Master of Accountancy and Master of Science in Management Information Systems..
The online Master of Accountancy program at UAB is designed for experienced professionals with a strong knowledge base in accounting and business. Not only do students further their understanding of core competencies, they also have the opportunity to advance skills in communication, interpersonal relationships, accounting technologies and applied research. Students without an accounting background can approach the Master of Accountancy online as a bridge program. Students are able to obtain formal accounting knowledge without requiring a commitment to an additional bachelor’s degree.
The online master’s degree in MIS from UAB is intended for experienced professionals with a knowledge base in information systems. It aims to help students gain a heightened business sense, strategic management skills and a refined understanding of emerging technologies. Students have the opportunity to focus their studies in one of three advanced concentrations — IT Management, Information Security, or Web and Mobile Development.
Both of these innovative Collat School of Business programs seek to expand the industry-specific knowledge, practical skills and critical-thinking ability important to preparing today’s students to tackle tomorrow’s business challenges. Developed for motivated individuals seeking to earn a degree while continuing to work, these online business degrees are an extension of UAB’s on-campus programs.
A key component to the online programs is to provide students with the same academic rigor and personalized instruction they would receive in UAB’s traditional classrooms.
