Gary KhodanianThe Industrial Supply Association (ISA) announced today that University of Alabama at Birmingham student Gary Khodanian was chosen to receive the 2015-16 Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship.

Khodanian is majoring in Industrial Distribution at the UAB Collat School of Business, and is scheduled to graduate in April 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution and an Entrepreneurship Certificate.

"I cannot begin to describe my immense gratitude to the selection committee and to the ISA Educational Foundation for choosing me as the recipient of this award. I will diligently work to spend every day of my academic and professional career living up to the merits of this wonderful distinction and the prestige of Gary L. Buffington himself,” Khodanian said.

A resident of Madison, Ala., Khodanian ranks at the top of his class in the Industrial Distribution program and has consistently earned Presidential Honors at UAB. He has spent time volunteering for the youth organization Campfire Alabama, served as a student leader for BhamCru, the campus Crusade for Christ ministry at UAB, and is active in the Entrepreneurship Club at UAB. He currently works as an Industrial Supply Intern at O’Neal Steel, a highly sought after internship position.

“Gary excels in both his business and engineering courses, and earns recognition for his high level of academic achievement from faculty and fellow students alike,” said Kristen B. Craig, program manager for the Charles & Patsy Collat Industrial Distribution program.

Craig added that Khodanian has persevered in the face of a difficult personal experience, when his father passed away soon after Khodanian enrolled at UAB. “Coping with the difficult experience of losing his father at a young age, Gary finds motivation in honoring his father by excelling in his pursuit to complete his undergraduate degree. Success has not come easily for Gary, but he has made his mark at UAB and has achieved excellence despite the extraordinary hardships and simple everyday challenges that are both part of everyday life,” Craig said.Industrial supply assoc

The scholarship was created in 2003 as a memorial to former I.D.A. Executive Vice President Gary Buffington. It is awarded each year to a rising senior in a qualified undergraduate industrial distribution program. The ISA Educational Foundation selection committee evaluates candidates from colleges with programs in industrial distribution.
