Dr. Lary Cowart has been appointed assistant dean for accreditation at the Collat School of Business, effective July 1, 2015.
Dr. Cowart, assistant professor of real estate and finance, recently served as interim chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance. He earned his PhD in real estate from the University of Georgia after receiving his MBA from Samford University and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Athens College.
In his new role, Dr. Cowart will oversee the school’s reaccreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Collat School of Business is one of only 179 universities in the world to be accredited separately in both business and in accounting.
AACSB accreditation is the ultimate mark of distinction for business schools and serves as re-assurance to students and employers that the level of education meets the highest international standards.
Dr. Cowart’s appointment is effective July 1, and he assumes the accreditation duties from Dr. Jack Howard, who has served as associate dean for faculty development and research since 2013.
“We appreciate Dr. Howard’s diligence, attention to detail and follow through,” said Collat School of Business Dean Eric Jack. “We also respect his decision to return to full-time faculty status, and I sincerely thank Dr. Howard for all that he has done as associate dean.”
Dr. Howard will focus on academic research and teaching human resource management classes within the Department of Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods.
