Howard assumes the duties of faculty chair from Molly Wasko, Ph.D., who now serves as associate dean of research, innovation and faculty success.
Prior to his appointment, Howard served as associate dean for faculty development and research from 2013 to 2015. A professor of management, he received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Illinois in human resource management. In addition to his professorship, Howard serves as Senior Scientist in the UAB Center for Aging.
His primary teaching interests focus on human resource management, labor relations and conflict management. He has published four book chapters and more than 25 refereed articles with publications in the Academy of Management Review, Human Relations, Journal of Applied Psychology and more. He received UAB’s 2016 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has received other outstanding teaching and research awards from Lamar University, Western Illinois University and Illinois State University.
In his new role, Howard will provide assistance to the department faculty to help ensure and track faculty success as well as oversee the administration and implementation of academic policies. He will serve as a resource to faculty, working collaboratively with administration and others in the community.
