SEF Top Sales IconThe Professional Sales Certification Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business has again been recognized as a “Top University Sales Program” by the Sales Education Foundation for 2019. The recognition appears in the foundation’s 2019 Annual magazine.

“We are thrilled to receive this honor once again,” said John Hansen, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing in the UAB Collat School of Business and director of the school’s Center for Sales Leadership. “Knowing how to sell is a skill set any student can use, and our program helps students kickstart their careers with specialized training.”

UAB’s Professional Sales Certification Program is one of the top 112 programs in the United States, according to SEF. The program focuses on business-to-business sales situations, providing students with a strong knowledge of how to be effective when selling in business markets. While sales careers are known for a high turnover rate, UAB sales students tend to stay with their employers longer because of the understanding of what it takes to be successful before beginning their sales careers.

A dedicated sales education classroom with three fully equipped sales role-playing rooms in the new Collat School of Business building, which opened in August 2018, have enhanced the program, Hansen said.

"Students are constantly being placed into situations in which they are actually selling, and in doing so are strengthening their questioning, listening, and overall communication skills," he said. "The rooms and technology provided in them will continue to benefit our students – and the companies that hire them – as we move into the future."
