scptThe UAB Center for the Public Trust student chapter was recently recognized as a Star Chapter by the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) for the 2019-20 academic year. The Star Chapter designation is an honor awarded to student chapters that lead with excellence and cultivate an environment of ethical behavior on campus.

Each chapter must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the award. In addition to having a broad membership, elected officers and regular chapter meetings, Star Chapters must participate in approved community service activities, promote StudentCPT ethics competitions, and participate in the StudentCPT Leadership Conference.

“The Star Chapter Award is affirmation that our students’ hard work and passionate defense of ethics in business is recognized and confirmed,” said accounting instructor Maria Athienitis, mentor and faculty advisor for the UAB StudentCPT chapter. “It is a reflection on the quality of speakers, superior student leadership and talent of ethical business professionals produced by our school.”

Established in 2005 by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy in the wake of numerous corporate accounting scandals, the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) is a non-profit organization that champions the public trust by advancing ethical leadership in business, institutions and organizations.

The UAB StudentCPT chapter’s new status is recognized on CPT’s website. The organization’s student officers for 2020-21 pictured below include Julie Godwin, Brendan Haight, Rebecca Phillips, and Rachel Kang. Students interested in joining the UAB StudentCPT can submit this form.
