In memory of her mother, Lisa Martz, Amanda Vandergrift organized Rumpshaker, Inc. in 2008 to raise funds and awareness to fight colon cancer.

On March 26, 2011, 3248 individuals participated in the 3rd Annual Rumpshaker 5k run/walk in Birmingham that raised approximately $122,000. Alumni, students, staff, faculty and friends of the UAB School of Business participated in the run/walk as a team by the name of The Booty-licious Bean Counters. Members of the team include: Kay Gerlach –professor Worrell’s mother-in-law, Laura Holloman -current accounting student, Erik Kahill -staff, Emily Pruitt -accounting and MBA alumna, Misti Rasmussen- accounting alumna, Lacinda Riesland- UAB employee, Debbie Tanju- retired accounting faculty, Nancy Turpen- professor Turpen’s wife, Whitney Wilson-staff, Jamey Worrell- faculty, and Lynn Worrelll- professor Worrell’s wife.

“This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” says Whitney Wilson, UAB School of Business internship coordinator. “I am thankful that Amanda is doing such an amazing job of bringing awareness to fighting the disease, and glad to have the opportunity to support her and this very worthwhile cause.”

In 2010, Rumpshaker Inc. used 30% of funds raised to educate the community about colon health as well as the importance of regular colon screening, and donated 60% of the funds to two local hospitals for capital equipment funds to purchase equipment used to detect and surgically remove colon cancer by less evasive means.
