Professor Yoder talks with Birmingham Business Journal about Birmingham's position among the top 10 largest banking centers in the U.S.
Yoder said it’s interesting to note that the assets held by Birmingham banks improved Alabama’s ranking as a banking center when compared to states across the country. Alabama is No. 6 in the nation based on total assets of state-chartered banks, he said, citing the Alabama Banking Department’s fiscal year 2011 annual report. Most of those assets (about $193 billion of $220 billion) are for banks headquartered in Birmingham.
“This ranking has always been a point of pride for Alabama, particularly because the states ahead of it are states with much larger populations,” he said.
