I have a non-business undergraduate degree. Does this preclude me from admission to your MBA program?

No, we encourage students with a variety of academic backgrounds to apply for MBA admission. In fact, over 50% of our students hold an undergraduate degree in something other than business.

How much professional work experience is required for admission to UAB's MBA program?

MBA admission preference is given to those applicants who have two or more years of professional, post-baccalaureate work experience.

What is the application deadline date for admission to the MBA program?

Do international students with a degree from an U.S. institution need to take the TOEFL exam?

No, applicants who have graduated from an U.S. accredited college or university do not have to submit a TOEFL score for admission to the MBA program.

What is the minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL exam for MBA admission?

UAB's MBA program requires a minimum score on the TOEFL of 550 (written), 213 (computer-based)  or 80 (internet). Admission decisions for international students are based on the GMAT, TOEFL and undergraduate record.

Do you accept the IELTS for international students in place of the TOEFL?

Yes, a minimum score of 6 on the IELTS is required for MBA admission. Students wishing to submit and IELTS score in lieu of the TOEFL should contact the Graduate School of Management at (205) 934-8817.

What prerequisites are required in the UAB MBA program?

We require students to have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college and taken pre-calculus algebra within the last 5 years with at least a C average.  A free, self-paced pre-calculus tutorial and quiz is provided online for admitted students who do not meet the pre-calculus requirement and must be successfully completed before the start of their first term. Students can enroll in the pre-calculus proficiency exam after registration for their first term by contacting Christy Manning, Administrative Director, Graduate Programs at cmanning@uab.edu.

Does the MBA program accept transfer students?

Yes, any student wishing to transfer to our MBA program from another graduate program must complete the regular admissions application and meet our admissions requirements. We will accept up to 25% of program requirements taken at another AACSB accredited university provided that the courses are equivalent to those which we require. Students may not transfer in courses with a grade below a "B".

Do you offer the UAB MBA online?

Yes, all of our MBA courses are offered online, so students can register to take classes online or in the classroom through our regular MBA program.  Students also have the option of pursuing their degree through our Enhanced Online with Premium MBA Program that provides a guaranteed path of progression with a tuition premium.
