The ability to perform amidst uncertainty, deal with failures, create operational focus in unstructured organizational contexts, support radical strategic pivots, and engage other distinct aspects of entrepreneurial settings are increasingly important competencies for college graduates seeking professional employment. Entrepreneurial ventures – both standalone businesses and subsidiaries of larger companies - are increasingly the principal job creators and innovative economic drivers for Alabama and the nation. A degree in entrepreneurship helps prepare individuals to step into related roles and immediately start contributing.

UAB’s new entrepreneurship major emphasizes the entrepreneurial mindset and outreach-based educational experiences with direct exposure to local and regional entrepreneurs. Students learn how the functional areas of business interact with one another in the context of an operating venture or project. The program instills an entrepreneurial mindset that allows graduates to lead and grow new ventures and projects in conditions of environmental uncertainty.
