In a story entitled “FDIC: State loses 7,000 bank jobs,” in the February 5, 2010 edition of the Birmingham Business Journal, Assistant Professor Stephen A. Yoder was quoted. Yoder provided a more upbeat counterpoint to the overall tone of the story by noting that while a number of big banks have indeed sold to banks outside of the state of Alabama, many of the top level executives at the banks are now running operations at smaller financial institutions in Birmingham.
“The small banks can become medium-sized banks and the medium-sized banks can become big banks,” Yoder said in the article.
Yoder was Senior Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of AmSouth Bank before its merger with Regions Bank. He teaches corporate governance, legal environment of business and leadership classes at the School of Business. He also directs the school’s honors program which emphasizes leadership.
