Social media and virtual community technologies are disruptive in that they have changed the way businesses and consumers interact and do business, communicate, and conduct themselves as cyber citizens. As these technologies emerge, it is essential that we understand how to harness their power and implement them in a way that facilitates strategic advantages. Dr. Allen Johnston, Assistant Professor of Information Systems in the UAB School of Business, will review the teaching and learning approaches used in his course, Social Media and Virtual Communities in Business, to provide students with the necessary technological skills and knowledge to effectively implement social media and virtual community in their careers.
