As an undergraduate student of anthropology at UAB, I developed an interest in both socio-cultural anthropology and archaeology. My general interests are in social theory, political economy, structural violence, war, and peace across human history and prehistory. My focus on socio-economic inequality drew me towards the Master’s program in the Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights at UAB. I was born in Alabama, but I partly grew up in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. I served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and I am a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Having lived through war, I want to understand how human societies can avoid waging war by practicing peace.
