She holds a B.S. from the University of Phoenix in Business with a concentration in Administration.

Merrill joined the department in 2012 and brings with her more than 20 years of UAB service to her role. Laura’s many responsibilities include assisting the Chair, managing the DAAH administrative functions, coordinating the Art History M.A. program, human resource management, and coordinating special projects. She received her B.A. in Art History from UAB in 2002 and Master of Public Administration in 2017.

Heather Spencer Holmes

Holmes is an artist, educator, event coordinator, and long-time Birmingham advocate. Having started her career as an artist in metal fabrication and black smithing, she has focused a great deal of her energy on teaching local youth metal working techniques and the importance of art in education. She has been part of Birmingham's art community for the past 22 years and has worked with countless local artists and organizations in an array of capacities, and is a recipient of The Alabama Arts Education Association's "Distinguished Service Within The Profession" award. Heather currently manages projects through MESH Collective and organizes both local and national art events.
