Dr. Daisy Wong is an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience as a software architect and engineer, technical manager, and IT executive.
She holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer and Information Sciences from UAB. She has worked for multiple Fortune 500 companies, including Perkin-Elmer, Cardinal Health, and 3M. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Computer Science Department at UAB, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate computer science courses.
In recent years Dr. Wong has worked for several local technology start-ups in the area of healthcare. She served as Director of Clinical Systems Engineering and then Vice President of Information Technology for MedMined, which used data mining technology to identify unsuspected trends of hospital acquired infections and bacterial antimicrobial resistance for detection, intervention, and prevention. She currently serves as Chief Quality Officer at MedSnap, a healthcare analytics firm that researched and developed computer vision technology on mobile and web application systems for precision counterfeit surveillance and pharmaceutical supply chain global security.
Dr. Wong is active in the CIS outreach program to spark youths’ interest in technology careers and to increase the talent pool to meet the growing technology staffing needs of the future. She is a volunteer for the 100 Girls of Code Birmingham chapter as instructor and classroom assistant. She is a Tech Professional volunteer for the TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) program.
