Joey Kennedy has been an instructor in the English Department at UAB since 2001. He received his bachelor’s degree in communications studies at UAB in 1988 and a master’s degree in English in 2003. Kennedy, a Pulitzer Prize-winner, has been a lifelong journalist. He teaches composition and literature and has taught creative nonfiction and magazine writing, among other courses. Kennedy has been on several master’s thesis committees.
Kennedy, a Safe Zone volunteer, is also an animal advocate. He and his wife, Veronica, operate Animal Advocates of Alabama. Kennedy is back-page columnist for B-Metro magazine and writes a weekly column for Alabama Political Reporter. He and his wife live on Birmingham’s Southside with a grumble of pugs.
