Office Hours: By appointment

Education:

  • B.A., University of Alabama at Birmingham, English
  • M.A., University of Alabama at Birmingham, Literature

My courses tend to focus primarily on U.S. American Literature, though I’m also interested in children’s and young adult literature, postcolonial theory, sociology, multi-ethnic literatures, visual rhetoric, and comic books/graphic novels. My graduate thesis examined the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, maternity, and socioeconomic class as seen in the fiction of two contemporary Latin American authors. In my courses I enjoy examining unconventional texts or those that feature marginal voices. I tend to frame my courses by explicitly connecting content to a broader historical context as well as to current national or worldwide conversations. Both my literature and composition courses tend to be fueled by lively discussions and deep textual analysis.

In my personal life, I’m passionate about improving my community through advocacy and service. I also enjoy writing, reading, hiking, gardening, bird watching, crafting, spending time with my husband and baby boy, and watching entirely too much television.
