Having lived in France my whole life, moving to Alabama was a bit of a shock, culturally. However, I quickly adapted and through my various degrees at the University of Alabama became a strong fan of its sports, particularly football.

My transition to the US happened when communicative language classes didn't exist and the only way to develop proficiency in a language was to immerse one self in a country that spoke that language. Therefore despite many 6 years of learning English and 4 of learning Spanish, my levels were that of a novice learner. To change that, I studied in Malaga (Spain) for an academic year and followed it with a full year in the US, namely in Alabama. That immersion worked and that is what I try to reproduce in my classroom.
