Office Hours: By appointment only
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Tennessee, Mathematics
In Remembrance - Roger T. Lewis
I was born in Talladega, Alabama, but from age three, I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, until finishing my undergraduate studies. Afterwards I worked for four years in the defense industry at the Ballistics Research Labs in Aberdeen, Maryland; RCA Service Corporation at Patrick Air Force Base, Cocoa Beach Florida; and Radiation Inc (now Harris Corp.) in Melbourne, Florida. During that period, I took evening courses at the Florida Institute of Technology to earn my M.S. in applied mathematics. Although that was a very interesting experience, I soon decided that I would like to teach mathematics. I left industry and went back to graduate school at UTK where I eventually earned my Ph.D. Then I taught for three years at Slippery Rock State College, Pennsylvania, before beginning my career at UAB, where I have been since 1975.
