As an instructor in the Department of Mathematics at UAB, I teach a range of precalculus level course (MA 102, MA 105, MA 106, and MA 110) and am the coordinator of remedial mathematics (MA 094 and MA 098). I have degrees in mathematics and mathematics education, so while I enjoy the study of mathematics, I also enjoy guiding students in their own exploration of mathematics. I am interested in curriculum that will help students succeed.
I have developed the remedial mathematics courses that are currently in place at UAB. Our remedial courses focus not only the tools needed to succeed in a college level mathematics course but also focus on a student’s skills as a problem solver. For example, part of our MA 098: Beginning Algebra course is devoted to a study of patterns in mathematics. Our goal is to help students to be independent learners and powerful problem solvers.
