Vincent Cirel developed a passion for mathematics in high school and found personal inspiration even earlier in life working with his grandfather as a land surveyor. When it was time to pursue his undergraduate degree, he looked to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Mathematics alumnus Stephen G. Odaibo, M.D., is an ophthalmologist and retina specialist, as well as a mathematician, computer scientist, and physicist.

Johnny “Rusty” Edward Bates, M.D. has established the Henry E. Bates, Jr. Scholarship in the Department of Mathematics—one of UAB's new Blazing the Way Scholarships.

Johnny E. Bates, M.D., a graduate of the Department of Mathematics, is a physician and the CEO and owner of Quality Correctional Health Care, Inc., which provides health care services in correctional settings.
Bhambhvani, a psychiatry and School of Medicine student, will receive funding to pursue a biological science graduate degree at the University of Cambridge if selected.

Keeping the Magic Alive

Alumna Debbie Jo Severin remembers her days as a UAB undergraduate student as extraordinary. Her time here was instrumental in molding many traditions for future Blazers, and she continues to invest in the future of UAB students.
Dr. Johnny Bates, Mr. Joseph Meadow, IV, Ms. Joy O’Neal, Mr. Tim Stephens were among 25 UAB alumni recognized for their success at a company they founded, owned or managed.
