Last fall, a local vintage-clothing collector donated more than 200 pieces to the UAB Department of Theatre—rack upon rack of dresses, skirts, bodices, hats, gloves, shoes, parasols, fans, a few men’s garments, sporting equipment, and a blue silk-peacock suit.

A New Lead for Musical Theatre at UAB
Valerie Accetta, M.F.A., assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and the head of UAB’s new bachelor of fine arts degree program in musical theatre, has plenty of impressive roles under her belt, from playing romantic lead Margy Frake in the first national tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair to singing baroque opera in Greece.
Alumna Rebecca Harper will direct a new play, “Women of War,” to be presented Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 19-22 by the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre.

Theatre UAB Awarded National Honors at KCACTF
Students in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre and the company’s production of “Big Love” were honored with national awards by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre will present the musical “Urinetown” April 9-13, with shows at 7:30 p.m. nightly April 9-12 and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in the Sirote Theatre at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
