The Rheumatology Research Foundation recently awarded Jarred Younger, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychology and director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Laboratory, with a pilot grant to fund his research in rheumatology. 
James McClintock, Ph.D., Endowed University Professor of Polar and Marine Biology in the Department of Biology, has been selected as an Explorers Club Fellow.

Emily Quarato, a junior from New York majoring in chemistry and anthropology, was selected to participate in a National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates site project this summer in eastern Hungary.
Junior Aaron Landis, who is majoring in neuroscience and is a member of the UAB Honors College University Honors Program, spent the summer working in the lab of Robert Sorge, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychology.
Eleven students in the Public Relations program, a specialization within the Department of Communication Studies, brought home a total of 17 awards at the state conference of the Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA) on April 20.
The College of Arts and Sciences will now offer the state’s only Bachelor of Arts degree in computer and information sciences.

Supraja “Sippy” Sridhar, a Hoover native and senior majoring in chemistry, launched a new campus organization to provide a food pantry to students struggling to pay for meals.
