UAB’s Bloom Studio, Digital Media Selected as 2016 American Advertising Awards Agency of Record
UAB's Bloom Studio and Digital Media have been invited to be the agency of record for the 2016 Birmingham American Advertising Awards.
UAB photography students have taken their work on the road and will open an exhibition, “Accidental Grace: Photographs Made in and About the South” on Friday, June 26, at the Shelby County Arts Council Gallery in Columbiana.

Art Class Brings Science into the Studio
When the worlds of art and science collide, don't expect an earth-shattering kaboom. Instead, you might just get a clearer understanding of how nature works.
Young students from The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs have had their silhouettes and creative inspirations preserved in a “legacy” piece of artwork with the help of UAB students.
Works by graduating students from the Department of Art and Art History will be on exhibition from April 20-May 1 in the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.

The March Quilts
The Department of Art and Art History celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March on March 25 by partnering with Birmingham’s Bib & Tucker Sew-Op —along with community partners — to create The March Quilts: A Community Project.
A new show of photographs made in and about the South curated by students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham will open at the Birmingham Museum of Art on Thursday, April 2, for the BMA’s First Thursday event.

New Exhibition Shows Works by Graduating BFA Students at UAB’s AEIVA
Works by three graduating students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Art and Art History will be on exhibition Dec. 1-13, in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.
Inspired by and in collaboration with Birmingham artist Carrie Bloomston’s Happy Flag Project, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Art and Art History is creating a community prayer flag installation to celebrate the Dalai Lama’s visit to Birmingham.
Works by advanced design students in the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Bloom Studio will be on exhibition Aug. 11-Sept. 22 in the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, 1221 10th Ave. South.
Space One Eleven will unveil works by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Visiting Assistant Professor of Sculpture Stacey Holloway, MFA, and Department of Art and Art History student Jacob Phillips during the gallery’s next Front Porch Gathering on Friday, July 11.

What Makes Art, Art?
Students in the Department of Art and Art History experimented with alternative materials in their recent project, Source Material.
See sculpture and installations created with materials not commonly found in the art studio during a one-night-only exhibition Wednesday, June 18, presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Art and Art History.
A design by University of Alabama at Birmingham student Hannah Rettig will adorn a refurbished school bus, essentially a mobile classroom, that will travel Woodlawn neighborhoods providing information and services to parents and children in an effort to help increase student success in school.

A New Kind of Storyteller
Most creative leaders in this world got to where they are today because they are problem-solvers: they find a need and fill it. In fact, it was this determined mindset that led Rosie O’Beirne and Anna Lloyd to establish the program of their dreams: the UAB Digital Media Fellows.
Congratulations to these highly accomplished, hardworking, and talented individuals in the College of Arts and Sciences.
