When Alex LaGanke, staff attorney at Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, left her hometown of Cullman to attend UAB, she quickly started to see the world through a new lens.

The overarching theme for this year was “Public Health and the Constitution.” 13 student teams participated in the event representing 38 students.

As Ellyn Grady embraces retirement and looks back on her storied career, she does not call attention to her impressive and incomparable fundraising achievements. Instead, she reflects on and celebrates the people with whom she connected, learned from, and worked alongside over the course of her 30 years in Birmingham.

The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes full-time regular faculty members of University of Alabama at Birmingham’s College of Arts and Sciences who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in teaching. Award winners must have held faculty status at UAB for a minimum of three years and may receive the award only once in any three-year period.

The College of Arts and Sciences is proud that three of the five honorees are our graduates.

This award honors alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary service to the local, national, or global community.

This is the College’s highest honor, and is awarded to prominent alumni who have achieved distinction through exceptional contributions to their professions.

Three faculty members in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration received organization-wide awards from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.

The UAB Graduate Dean's Excellence in Mentorship Award recognizes full-time regular UAB faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments as mentors of graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows.

Established in 2018, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes full-time regular faculty members of College of Arts and Sciences who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in teaching.

Ten senior faculty members from the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) came to UAB for an intensive three-week training program centered around building leadership skills in the public sector.

Laila-Rose Hudson is the UAB Political Science Program’s Outstanding Student for 2018.

The Graduate and Professional programs within the Departments of Biology and Political Science and Public Administration rank among the nation’s best.

Dr. Angela Lewis, professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (formerly Government) and director of the Political Science Program, has agreed to serve as interim chair of the department.
